Could you catch cold sores on your lips from a peck?

Last year, during the summer I met this guy. We had a thing for a short time, and he kissed me. A very short peck, not like a slobber fest. But for some reason I started getting this huge nasty bump on the corner of my lip. It's so gross, and I get it in the same place, every two months. I think I got it from him? Because he's very promiscuous and had multiples of times. Is it from him? Or am I just unlucky, and i got the cold sore randomly? What is it!
