Question about Cancun/Playa Del Carmen??

I'm thinking of taking a trip to Playa Del Carmen the last week of December, first week of January. I'm wondering how the weather is at this time? Does it rain a lot, is hot? Do I need a jacket for the nights? Also is it very busy with tourists at this time? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!! : )
